Where do you live and in what capacity are you serving with Extreme?
I currently live in Nampa Idaho with my husband Tobin and son Grahm, who was born 3/7/13. I am a mental health counselor in the area and just opened my own private practice. I have the privilege of working with Extreme as a consultant in a counseling capacity. Most of my work happens here in the US doing interviews, online counseling, phone consultation with the directors and other roles as needed. I have been able to work in Peru for short periods of time with the teams doing workshops and meeting with individuals and families of Extreme to encourage, support and counsel.
How and when did you join Extreme?
I was introduced to Extreme in 2010 when Sheli Gartman asked another counselor and I to be part of an interview for prospective Extremies, which I then continued to be a part of. I fell in love with the Extreme team and saw the potential for me to use my background and training to support the missionaries and families living on the field. I have had the opportunity of working with Sheli to start the Wellbeing team. The Wellbeing team has continued to grow in an attempt to meet the needs of the ever expanding Extreme family.
Tell us about your first encounter with the mission field. Extreme or other?
I grew up on the mission field in Southern Africa. My parents, Hugh and Evelyn Friberg, are retired missionaries of the Church of the Nazarene. This led me to my love of mission work, international travel and my heart for taking care of missionaries and their families. God called me at the age of 15 to work with missionary kids and I have been trying to wait patiently until He opened the right doors. Extreme has offered me the chance to work with missionaries of all ages.
What is your most memorable moment with Extreme?
My work with Extreme is mainly with the teams and office staff and I have been fortunate to be a part of many powerful moments in the lives of Extremies. Many memorable moments have happened which are not mine to share, but I have been able to be a part of times of emotional and relational healing. God moves in powerful ways when the teams are open and vulnerable with each other.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The personal relationships I have been able to develop with many of the present and past Extremies. Extreme is full of amazing individuals and I feel so blessed to be invited into their lives
What has been the most important thing you have learned?
It has been re-emphasized again and again the power of God’s love and grace when I get out of the way and let Him speak through me.,
How can we pray for you?
For the changes in my life – being a mom & starting a new practice and for guidance on my role with Extreme during these next few years.
